Giant Tetrahedron Challenge

Robertson's Construction have provided Glaitness school with the resources to undertake the Giant Tetrahedron activity.  We thought that we would like to have a go.

We spent some time in the morning talking about what a tetrahedron is and had a go at making our own small and medium sized ones using the polydron resources.

Once we explored this.  We discussed what the purpose of our activity was.  The emphasis was on teamwork, and listening to and following instructions.

We began by using the dowels and elastic bands to make individual tetrahedrons.  We had to make 64 of them!  After our first go, most of us were able to make them by ourselves.

We then had to work in groups to join four of our tetrahedrons together to make a middle sized tetrahedron.

Then we had to join four of the middle sized ones together to create some large tetrahedrons.

Finally, the challenge.  We had to join these large ones together to create one Giant 4 metre x 4 metre Tetrahedron.  We had to be very careful in doing this.

Look at what we achieved as a team!  We all had enough trust in our construction abilities to try walking through our tetrahedron!

  7. We loved making tetrahedrons because it was tricky to make them. We managed to make them out of dowel rods and elastic bands. Jamie m & Sam.
